Penchrise Peel

Cycling

There are four key cycle trails around Penchrise. The Cavers & Stobs at 30km; Vertish Hill Top at 11.5km; Roberton Trail at 22.5km; and Denholm Trail at 23km.

These cycle trails follow the River Teviot, Slitrig Water and Borthwick Water, past Williestruther Loch and Branxholm Easter & Wester Lochs.

Walks

Penchrise gives the keen walker and runner the perfect location for long expeditions into the wild. With easy access to Hadrian’s Wall, there are many miles of historic walking available. As Penchrise opens onto the mountains, it is easy to spend an entire day exploring the local ruins and ancient hill forts. There are other notable historical locations within reach, such as Jedburgh and Abbotsford, for the explorer who prefers historical settings.

Fishing

The River Tweed is Scotland’s second largest river and recognised as one of the best salmon and trout fishing locations. Salmon fly fishing starts on the 1st of February and runs through to the 30th of November. If you are interested in brown trout fishing, with fish rising readily to the fly using both dry and wet fly, then the River Tweed is one of the best locations to choose. The season for trout extends from mid-March to early October. ​

Penchrise offers the ideal venue and cosy retreat for your fishing holiday. The perfect location with close access to a number of reaches of the Tweed for the accomplished fisher, with beginner’s classes available for the novice. Early Breakfasts before a day in the river, followed by high teas, traditional full fayre for dinner followed by warm evenings around the fire.

Archery

Surrounded by the wonderful Scottish countryside, lessons for beginners or the experienced bowman are available locally. Sessions can be arrange wth qualified instructors for 30 to 60 minutes for all abilities above the age of twelve.
